RINOTec™ Technology Earns US Environmental Protection Agency's Green Chemistry Challenge Award

ProFarm Group is proud to announce we are the recipient of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s Green Chemistry Challenge Award for RINOTec™ Technology in the category of the Design of Safer and Degradable Chemicals. This novel microbial-based technology is the active behind our newest pesticidal platform.
Upon receiving the award in New York City on Thursday, September 26, Levon Sarkissian, Managing Director of North America for ProFarm Group, stated, “This revolutionary insecticide and nematicide is the first of its kind, providing farmers with a powerful new tool to protect their crops from pests that cause millions of dollars in losses each year.”
RINOTec™ Technology is a new technology that provides activity on above and below-ground pests and will be available for use in products for row and specialty crops including corn, potatoes, tree nuts, and vegetables.

In a recent climate impact product assessment conducted by Boundless Impact Research & Analytics, ProFarm’s Venerate® XC Bioinsecticide received a score of 8.6 out of 10. The analysis evaluated life-cycle inputs and impacts of Venerate XC Bioinsecticide per acre on the following:
- Soil, Aquatic and Human Toxicity,
- Ecosystem Impact,
- Harmful Materials,
- Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions, and
- Carbon Return on Investment (CROI).
One of the key learnings from this product analysis was the amount of electricity and steam required to produce Venerate XC Bioinsecticide. The result was a decision to switch ProFarm’s manufacturing facility in Bangor, Michigan to all-renewable energy this fall, a move that reduced the amount of greenhouse gas emissions the product generates by 32%.
BIOSt® Nematicide Seed Treatment Achieves 'Outstanding' Climate Impact Score
Reduces Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Soybeans and Corn by 85%+

The updated BIOSt® Nematicide Climate Impact Profile shares the findings of a third-party study conducted by Boundless Impact Research & Analytics in which ProFarm’s seed treatment product was evaluated on the following:
- Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions
- Human and Environmental Safety
- Product Performance
When BIOSt® Nematicide seed treatment was measured for climate impact against similar conventional and biological pesticides used in seed treatment, the seed treatment product scored, ‘Outstanding,’ or a 9.9 out of 10.
Key Findings:
- BIOSt® Nematicide reduced GHG emissions by 85% in soybeans and 87% in corn compared with conventional pesticides.
- For every million acres of soybean and corn seed treated with BIOSt® Nematicide seed treatment, more than one million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) are reduced.
- If the seed treatment was used on the entire projected 87.6 million U.S. soybean plantings for 2021, the CO2 emission reduction would potentially equal more than 43,000 tons, comparable to removing nearly 10,000 passenger cars from the road.
Comparative GHG Impact Assessment of ProFarm Group Biopesticides vs. Conventional Chemical Pesticides

The Comparative GHG Impact Assessment of ProFarm Group Biopesticides vs. Conventional Chemical Pesticides study, conducted by the University of California, Davis School of Management, determined the greenhouse gas effects of commercial ProFarm Group agricultural products compared with conventional chemical pesticide products or other alternative competitive products.
Key Findings
The new study was conducted to determine the greenhouse gas effects of selected ProFarm Group biopesticides and plant health products compared with conventional chemical pesticide products or other alternative competitor products. Based on a comparative assessment of pesticidal products’ manufacturing processes, labeled rates and seasonal use practices, switching from conventional chemical pesticide products to current Pro Farm biopesticides would, on average, likely result in net reductions of greenhouse gas emissions of 69% to 91% (or 39 to 46 Kilograms of CO2 equivalents per acre per year).
Methodology
To assess greenhouse gas effects, ProFarm conducted an inventory analysis on company-wide emissions by source, facility and activity, based on wastewater discharge, water consumption, irrigation water use, electricity use and fuel combustion.
